(Very) Brief Thoughts on the Winter 2011/12 anime season

Yet another blog entry brought to you by my procrastination in writing my thesis. Thirty new shows, none of which I’ll get a chance to watch till late May or June. Which in one way is a good thing, I wouldnt watch them until they were finished anyway so having a good excuse to wait suits me fine. Some stuff looks decent here and one or two I really want to see. But there’s just something about this season that seems dull. In an odd change I’m looking forward to a ton of the OVA’s and most of the films (yay BERSERK!!).

The oh so useful chart format overview of the season in question:

What I’m really looking forward to

Kyousogiga – Weird modern day supernatural stuff where reality isnt quite what it seems is my bread and butter babay! Thats basically it, it ticks a lot of boxes that I like ticked so it gets an in.

High School DxD – If this isnt ruined by fan service then I can see myself enjoying it.

Zero no Tsukaima F – The first two seasons were great. I see no reason why the third and fourth (and last) seasons shouldnt be likewise.

Nisemonogatari – Bakemonogatari was one of the best anime I’ve seen in the last decade, by a decent margin, I have high hopes for this sequel

Brave10 – This looks like the kind of thing I love

Another – The preview alone sold me on this

What I’m likely to watch

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED HD Remaster – I enjoyed the first series when I watched it back in the day. An excuse to re-watch (and finally watch the sequel series) all in lovely, lovely HD is just what I need.

Natsume Yujin-Chou Shi – I watched, and really enjoyed, the first and second season. I was planning to re-watch the third and started from the first to refresh myself. But while excellent I find this show very emotionally draining to watch so its probably on the long finger for the moment.

Area no Kishi – I am not the worlds biggest fan of foot to ball. But the manga version of this was quite engaging (read it during my sports manga phase) so I’ll likely check this out.

Boudacious Space Pirates – I had no interest in this initially but early reviews are saying its quite akin to Irresponsible Captain Tylor, which makes it worth checking out at least.

Rinne no Lagrange – I like big robots (and I cannot lie)

Inu x Boku SS
– Could be good, could be creepy (not in a good way)

Unlikely but a possible watch

Senhime Zesshou Symphoger – This looks sort of terrible. But it will probably kill an evening with some brainless entertainment.

Aquarion EVOL – The first Aquarion series was an odd mixture of interesting and shit. I dont have high hopes for this.
