Well not so much upcoming as almost finished. I only realised when I went to post my initial impressions of the upcoming Fall Season that I totally forgot to hit publish on the similar post I wrote for the Summer season. So here it is. I have to say, this season looks pretty lackluster to me Continue reading…
Out to Sea 03 – The only one who gives the orders here
So week two of my time with Kancolle began pretty well. My resources, while not high, were relatively stable and I’d unlocked some of the key levelling areas in the game so I was all set to start levelling up my main fleet. Unfortunately ignorance of how the game functioned once again took me by unpleasant surprise. Continue reading…
Out to Sea 02 – Givin out the order for fun
So when we left off I had just make the momentous decision to try out a free to play browser game #toteslikestoutcortez. This wasnt as straightforward as one might expect, as the game was not just Japanese only it also used region locking to prevent dirty gaijin like me from playing it. Though considering how easy it is to circumvent it feels more like a token effort than anything else. To play the game you have to sign up with DMM.com. Which you could do in English but you have to do in Japanese, after a little bit of cookie based jiggery pokerey. Continue reading…
Out to Sea 01 – You must obey the fleet commander
There are moments in one’s life, moments that could be mistaken for clarity but are better described as moment’s of unwelcome awareness. These moments are generally filled with the mental friction of having the full realisation of what you’re doing grinding against your preconceived notions of self like a dirty old man at a disco. Change might be a constant but sometimes fully comprehending that change can make it feel more like a descent than a transition. I experienced one of those moments of unwelcome self-awareness a few days ago which is what lead to what you’re reading (in the interest of clarity, this dramatic build-up is not going to pay off). I’ll get into the exact details of it in a moment. But first some all important background. Continue reading…
Mick’s Weekly World News Round Up – 05 – 11/05/15 – 17/05/15 – Broken News
I did not forget about this, I did serious computer problems stretching from last Tuesday to Saturday evening. With only a day and a half of computer access I remained tragically ignorant of the usual unimportant nonsense I write about here. So for this week you’ll have to fend for yourselves.
Mick’s Weekly World News Round Up – 04 – 04/05/15 – 10/05/15
What a week, had my first pint of 2015. Tragically that didn’t make the headlines, but anything of interest to me that did got pulled and carefully curated for your reading pleasure. Though looking at it it seems that not a lot interested me this week. Continue reading…
The entertainment value of human misery
Is generally pretty low for me these days. There is an endemic trend in both the general populace and general criticism to conflate tragedy with maturity. Largely because it requires very little mental effort to bridge the gap I imagine. But that discussion is rather tangential to the, brief, topic at hand. The title is misleading as this isn’t a general post exploring it, rather its simply my thoughts on the first volume of “Ushijima the Loan Shark”. An award winning series that is currently going strong on its thirty first volume. Continue reading…
Mick’s Weekly World News Round Up – 03 – 27/04/15 – 03/05/15
Cant believe its fucking May already, for poor old Malcom time might have been the fire in which he burns but for me time is more like a slip and slide I glide lazily across. Also still not happy with that title. Relatively short this week, I was online fuck all and was oddly busy doing nothing so I didnt really catch too much news. Continue reading…
Man Vs Belly – Fatchelor Life 05 (Insomnifat)
My single biggest impediment to dieting successfully is my sleep pattern. Getting up in the afternoon is diet kryptonite. You end up with no breakfast or a meaninglessly late one which throws off the schedule for the rest of your meals and in the dark of the night you seldom want a proper meal so it leads to snacking etc. It also tends to sap my willpower and lead to “dark thoughts”. An obvious example would be the fact that last week when I was getting up (roughly) normally I was cooking every day, posting to the blog, etc. This week? Nothing on either front. Continue reading…
Mick’s Weekly World News – 02 – 20/04/15 – 26/04/15
Another weekly roundup. Still not happy about the title. Though posted manually (like a savage) it is out on the right day. My “time away from the internet” went much better this week. I’ve got out of the habit of using social media or checking various gaming forums so I don’t even really “miss” it anymore. I also distracted myself by doubling down on improving my diet (with partial success) and going back to basics and trying to formally plot out every conspiracy in my yet to be named (probably Overdue) next great Irish novel (with much less success). Continue reading…
