Stopgaps

I want to run or play in an RPG campaign. But its awakward both geographically and because I feel inordinately guilty about reaading rpg material or planning a game. No idea where the guilt comes from but it makes it difficult to plan anything. The fact that theres a general feeling that I’ll never get to run anything that I come up with doesnt help. While I now only buy one or two rpg products a year I still have a giant stockpile of unused stuff. Ideally I’d have a regular weekly session but even trying to plan a once a month boardgame night is proving a chore so that seems unlikely. Maybe move it online? Playing online with strangers just feels sort of odd though. So is this post just me whinging? Well to a certain extent, yes. Wait, no. It isnt. In my previous post I was complaining about time just passing idly by. So I’m going to combine my problems.

The more eagle eyed of my regular readers (hahaha) will have noticed theres a new page up the top, The Wound. What I’m going to use that for is to develop a fantasy setting to set a game in. Any time Im sitting there wasting time staring into space I will instead throw even an extra sentence of setting information onto that page instead.

Thats more or less all there is to it. But it feels a little short so now Im going to ramble on about some games I’d like to run.

I’d really like to run a game where the players are a mercenary company. I’m not particularly worried about the genre or setting. Its the mercenary bit that interests me. I’d an idea for doing it with Anima: Beyond Fantasy or Legends of Angelerre or Runequest 6. I was also thinking it might be fun to do it in the modern day (using FATE core, Savage Worlds or Unisystem) or even a cyberpunk version (using Shadowrun). I’d also like to try using Legends of the Wulin to run a highschool modern day wuxia game. Marvel Heroic Roleplaying to run my own cosmic Marvel storyline. Tenra Bansho Zero (once the book arrives) to simply run something using its awesome world and system and finally Pendragon to run the full Great Pendragon campaign (multi-generational stuff really appeals). I’m not sure if I can get players for any of these but as I can set the mercenary one in my fantasy world (and have one or two ideas for some fantasy short stories) I think I’ll get the most utility out of going with it (also I really want to try out the Runequest 6, FATE and Savgae Worlds systems, all of which will work in a fantasy millieu).

Anyway if you’re interested in seeing my progress feel free to bookmark the page and keep checking back. Due to the deliberately shitty way my components have been shipped I probably wont have a replacement office computer till late next week which means plenty of free time till then.
